I Work At Gordmans And It Is Fun :))))))))))

I just started working at Gordmans about a month ago now and thus far it has been quite the fun experience. I love the atmosphere in the area and the associates there are great. Even though i haven't been working for very long I've learned a whole lot and I feel like im becoming a better worker each day. My managers are very fun people to work with. One manager, Rachel, is so hilarious. There is never a dull moment when she is working. She gets bored really easily so she will say a bunch of funny things over the walkie. Don't get me wrong we do a lot of work, lately the place has been quite busy and there has been a lot of work and it is basically keeping up with the customer. It is just very nice to be in a fun working enviornment.
Getting back to how much work we do, I have helped unload a semi-truck with huge stacks of new items that are shipped to our store. The boxes were just stacked, almost to the top of the trailer. I used a pallet jack to lift them up, then I moved them out of the truck and into our storage hall. Most Gordmans stores have a lot bigger stock rooms but as of what i hear ours is the skinniest. The stock room is very tightly sqeezed and it is lengthened out. Thats why i call it the storage hall. ;)

I like Performing

I love being a performer. I am in show choir and through that I've found that performing for an audience is a really good feeling. Last weekend on Saturday night I got the opportunity to perform in Fab Five. Fab Five is an event where five 4a schools in Cedar Rapids come together with their show choirs and perform not to compete but just to simply entertain. It has been a long tradition and is very fun. Also, two groups or soloist performers that audition for each of the show choirs get to perform on stage whatever they can put together. I was one chosen from our choir, Happiness INC. I performed "Tears in Heaven" by Eric Clapton. Most people are nervous when they know they are the center of attention in front of a big audience and they are singing or performing in some way. I have always loved it. I am really comfortable on stage and even if i was nervous almost my whole choir was in the crowd cheering for me. I had every reason to be pumped. There is something about being in front of a crowd that just attracts me to where I know that i have to put on the best show that I possibly can.

I Like Having Off Hours At School

I have 3rd hour release for school because only seniors can have a release at our school. Three of my buddies have it off as well and we go out to eat a lot. I eat a lot of fast food with my buds. We go out to eat at a lot of fast food places because there are so many restaurants around the area of our school. We go to KFC, Wendy's, Taco Bell, Donutland, Arby's, Starbucks, Sonic, Subway, McDonalds, Metro Buffet, Burger King, and many others. I am makin' many fat times. Doing all of this running around and buying fast food can get really expensive at times so my buddies and I have our parents buy us a bunch of canned food and we bring it over to my house. We barge in and hog the microwave from my dad. Ryan, Bryan, and Kyle bring over cans by the bag and when we are not eating them i put them in my room. We eat a bunch of different soups and different brands of Spaghettios. Ryan brings over Chunky and Progresso soup while kyle brings cans of Spaghettios, ABC 123's, and Spaghetti rings (a knock off brand of Spaghettios). When we are not eating though we get a few games of basketball going and/or 21. In conclusion having 3rd hour off altogether with my friends can be really fun and is a good break from school. I look forward everyday to having this time just to sit and relax and to enjoy not taking notes or doing fuckin' homework.

The Official Van Halen Website

(A pair of Chevrolet classics from the personal collection of rock ‘n’ roll icon Eddie Van Halen will be sold at No Reserve during the 38th Annual Barrett-Jackson Collector Car Auction in Scottsdale, Ariz., Jan. 11-18, 2009. The 1956 Chevy 210 (Lot #1259) and 1956 Chevy Nomad (Lot #1259.1) will each be auctioned with matching, one-of-a-kind EVH Brand “Wolfgang” guitars and a pair of red, white, and black EVH striped sneakers. Hailed as “The World’s Greatest Collector Car Auctions™,” the Scottsdale auction and lifestyle event will feature a diverse mix of the world’s most desirable collector vehicles. SPEED will broadcast nearly 40 hours of live, high-definition coverage of all six auction days.
“Rock ‘n’ roll and collector cars go hand in hand,” said Steve Davis, president of Barrett-Jackson. “And Eddie’s cars, although from the same year, represent the diversity of the collector car hobby. The Nomad is restored to original specifications while the 210 is a custom built street rod with modern performance gear. I expect these cars to enter special collections that salute both rock ‘n’ roll and automobiles.”
The maroon 1956 Chevrolet 210 is a Pro Street hot rod built by customizer Jim Van Gordon. The car features a powerful 454 c.i.d. big block Chevy engine that pumps out more than 600 horsepower, making it suitable for the drag strip while still street legal. Additional highlights include a narrowed 9-inch Ford rear end with Detroit Locker, Mark Williams axles, 4.30 gears, 4-link coil-over suspension, disc brakes, and custom wheels and tires. Racing gauges and a dark grey color scheme underline the interior of the 210."
Van Halen’s 1956 Chevrolet Nomad station wagon sports a classic “Cashmere Blue” and white paint scheme and was once part of the famed “The Harrah Collection” in Reno, Nev. The car underwent a frame-off restoration and features a 265 c.i.d., 210 horsepower “Power Pack” V8 engine, power steering and power brakes. An upgrade to disc brakes was added for improved stopping and safer driving."
"Out of all the cars I have owned over the years, I hung onto the ‘56 Sedan and Nomad because I was closely involved in restoring and building them, so they are very special to me," explained Van Halen. "I almost hate to let them go, but I don’t have the time to drive them. It kills me to see them sit there when someone else could be driving them and have the pleasure and joy of owning these beautiful classic cars.”
"Since they are so dear to me, I thought I would make it even more special by having two custom made Wolfgang guitars built to match each car,” Van Halen added. “I hope the new owners enjoy these cars as much as I have and keep the guitars and cars in their families for a long time, because they are all one-of-a-kind.”)-From the Van Halen Website. I love this band check them out.

My Life A.K.A.....Music

My life consist of me going to school sitting and basically waiting for it to get over. One exception is all of my music classes, but anyways, I love getting out and then going home to play guitar. I have a whole system set up in my basement. All that I have to do is flip the switch on my power strip and I will most likely be in my basement for an hour or two just doing what feels right. And all I need is my system, and a guitar, and microphone. After I get in there I completely enter a whole different world.

I am the kind of guitarist who just is in love with music, it is my schedule. For me playing guitar and singing is more than a hobby. Maybe some day it will become a job, but even then it will just be a huge part of my life. To me it wont be a job, it will be what I love doing. I would rather make little money and be happy with doing the things I love then sitting in some boring office and receiving big paychecks and living a fake life. I want to live life at its fullest and if I become successful from it, well I wont be doing it for that reason.
